      Hi Glen,

      I think it far more noteworthy that the author had the insight to defend the laws of God, as not being unmerciful ( as the world so often accuses God ). But the laws of God are always full of mercy in every case. God is always merciful and just in every thing He says and does.

      The world is so quick to accuse God of being cruel when He says - "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". But God is never cruel, or unmerciful. The Kings of those days would have a person executed for stealing a loaf of bread, or striking a rich person. God was simply saying that is not just. If a person steals bread, then he should be made to pay it back four times over, not be killed. The penalty should fit the crime.
