Why did God make the universe so big? Why wasn't anything mentioned in the Bible about life existing elsewhere in the universe?

I think God made the universe so big to reveal to mankind that it is so much bigger than man is. This is to humble mankind so that hopefully man will humble himself before The Creator of a universe so huge.
God did not mention life anywhere but earth. Further He says Christ died once for ALL. That would indicate that there is only mankind on this earth. It may be to reveal to man how much of a miracle life is. Life does not take place by random chance, but only by a miracle from God.
