What is a good way to get the most out of reading the Bible? I've been reading it most every day and I find find that my mind wonders off when reading, what do you suggest?

I went trough this same difficulty when I started reading the Bible 44 years ago. The first time I did not pray and ask The Lord to help me. I soon stopped reading it because I found it terrifying.

The second attempt was much different. I prayed and asked God to show me what Version to read. He led me to parallel translations of the Tyndale Living and the NIV. I started reading the NT in the Tyndale Living Bible ( Not New Living) and also prayed every time I sat down to read it and asked God to help me understand it. He did help me and soon the book was very exciting and full of new revelations. I could not put it down and read the whole NT and then read it again.

I read the NIV next and found they complimented one another. Today I have every English Translation that I know of and they all add to the understanding. I thought I understood the KJV because I could read the words , but I simply did not fully understand 1611 English.

So I recommend getting a modern English version or two and pray and ask God to help you understand them. It worked for me. There is no better Teacher than the Holy Spirit and He will guide you if ask Him to do so.
