  • Was Melchizedek God himself?

and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. - Hebrews 7:2

Who is the King of Righteousness and the King of Peace? Christ.

He also blessed Abram with bread and wine to give him strength for his journey. What does bread and wine symbolize? The body and blood of Christ.

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. - Genesis 14:18

My conclusion: Yes, Melchizedek was God.

My conclusion: Yes, Melchizedek was God.
    TREMENDOUS KARL, Amen and amen.

Who did Abraham tithe to. He gave his tithe to God. But the scripture says Abraham gave a tenth to Melchizedek. So Melchizedek is God.

Every main Godly character has their father listed and sometimes their mother. Their birth and death are often recorded. But Melchizedek has no father and no mother listed. God has no father or mother. Melchizedek has no birth of no death listed, God has no beginning and no end.

Melchizedek is King of Righteousness and King of Salem. ( Salem was Jerusalem) I use the word "is" because it says that Melchizedek is a priest FOREVER.

Psalm 48 King James Version (KJV)

48 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.

2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King
    .
It speaks of Jerusalem here and it says it is the city of the great King. This passage is also speaking of God. So when was God the King of Jerusalem. He was King of Jerusalem as Melchizedek.

    Matthew 5
34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:

35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King
    .
Look what Jesus is saying here. He is saying that heaven is God's throne, the earth is His footstool, and Jerusalem is His city.

Here Jesus tells us that Jerusalem is the city of the great King. So when was this great King, the king of Jerusalem. It was when Melchizedek was King of Salem.

    Psalm 110
    Of David. A psalm.

1 The Lord says to my lord:

    “Sit at my right hand
    until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”

2 The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying,
“Rule in the midst of your enemies!”
3 Your troops will be willing
    on your day of battle.
    Arrayed in holy splendor,
your young men will come to you
like dew from the morning’s womb.

    4 The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
    “You are a priest forever,
    in the order of Melchizedek.”
Jesus showed us that this scripture is speaking of Him when it says, The Lord says to my lord.

But in verse 4 it says that The Christ ( God) is a Priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Christ is God Almighty, who is on the same order ( or rank) as God. No one but God.

    So Melchizedek is God.

This psalm also states that Melchizedek is a priest forever. Only God can be a priest forever.

Melchizedek had no father and no mother !

        WHO IS MELCHIZEDEK ?

LET ME FIRST ASK WHAT ARE THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD ?

1 - GOD HAS NO BEGINNING AND NO END - no on but God has these attributes

2 - GOD IS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS NO FATHER AND NO MOTHER ? every other being has a father and most have a mother

3 - GOD HAS THE POWER OF AN INDESTRUCTABLE LIFE - no other being except God has this power

Now let is look at what The Bible states about Melchizedek.

        Hebrews 7
        Melchizedek the Priest
1 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, 2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, his name means "king of righteousness"; then also, "king of Salem" means "king of peace." 3 Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God he remains a priest forever. 4 Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! 5 Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people--that is, their brothers--even though their brothers are descended from Abraham. 6 This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. 7 And without doubt the lesser person is blessed by the greater. 8 In the one case, the tenth is collected by men who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living. 9 One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, 10 because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.
We are told here that Melchizedek has no father of no mother.

We are told that Melchizedek has no beginning and no end of life

We are told that Melchizedek is greater than Abraham.

        Jesus Like Melchizedek
11 If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the law was given to the people), why was there still need for another priest to come--one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? 12 For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law. 13 He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. 15 And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is declared: "You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek." 18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. 20 And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, 21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him: "The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: 'You are a priest forever.' " 22 Because of this oath, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant. 23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. 26 Such a high priest meets our need--one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men who are weak; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever.
The Holy Spirit is comparing Jesus to Melchizedek here.

He did this because many Jews knew Melchizedek was God. So if Jesus is like Melchizedek, Jesus is also God.

Melchizedek is simply one of the many Names of God. For The Lord Jesus alone is the King of Righteousness.

Thanks so much for your reply Baruch. It is hard to be inspired to write these posts if no one replies to them.
