  • The Lord helps us with the smallest details in our lives

I have been feeling a little down lately. The Lord is so full of mercy and grace to cause total strangers to show kindness to us when we need it.

Today I drove down to my gun club. I took a Taurus Tracker 357 magnum 7 shot revolver with me. I have only shot it once before. But I had installed a low 2 power pistol scope on it that I had had for years and wanted to try the two together.

I went to the pistol range first and sighted the scope in. After I got it sighted in, I shot all 7 rounds into one ragged hole. The other man that was there commented that my revolver was really an accurate gun. I asked him if he would like to try it. I handed him the gun and ammo to load it. He fired a 2 & 1/8" group with it and said, That is not as easy as it's looks. He then complimented me on my shooting.

After I had thought about this, considering how men like to think that no one can out shoot them, I started to become aware that The Lord may have something to do with him saying this. I took this as kindness from The Lord Himself.

I then drove a short distance to the 600 yard rifle range to sight it in at 100 yards. When I got out of the car one man seen me and said, "they have a pistol range over there", pointing in the direction of the pistol range. I said, I know, I just came from there. I had never seen anyone shoot a pistol on our rifle range myself, but I had checked and it was not against the rules.

So I set up targets at 50 and 100 yards. Most of the guys there had long range rifles with high power scopes on them. They also had very high power spotting scopes to see their hits.

I fired several shots and adjusted the scope after every shot until it hit the bulls eye. Then I loaded 7 rounds and shot at the other bulls eye at 50 yards. The first round was a little high so I adjusted it slightly down. The 2nd round was little low, so I adjusted it one click up and one click to the left.

I then shot the 5 rounds that were left in the revolver and with my naked eye it looked like there was only one hole. I wondered where the other rounds went. I looked through the inexpensive spotting scope I had ($40) and all five rounds went into one ragged hole. It measured 15/16". I was pleased. I felt touched by The Lord and felt He was pleased too.

The guys that were shooting on both sides of me must have looked through their rifle scopes to see how I had done since they seemed to think it odd I had brought the revolver to the rifle range. They both came over to my bench and asked what kind of revolver it was and I showed it to them. They then complemented me on my shooting.

I then shot it at the 100 yard targets. After re-sighting the scope in for the longer distance, I seen that the orange dots I had put out to shoot at were too small and I did not have any ones that were larger with me. So I shot the second target knowing that I would not be able to do well. I was only able to keep a 6" group. The cross hairs blotted out the orange bull totally and I could not tell where to hold.

During the time I was cleaning up one guy and then another came over to ask about my gun. They all commented that was very good shooting and that they had some rifles that could not do that well.

I did not know even one of these men. I went down there and was kinda down that I had to go alone. But The Lord seen that I had fellowship with everyone one there. I talked with everyone of them while I was there and had some good conversations with some.

Now the ability to shoot a gun accurately is not very important these days. But it is a very small thing that The Lord has given me some ability to do. I am at a lost for words to explain this. I was struck by The Lord causing all of these men to speak to me with favor and kindness.

Think about it, is the world a kind and generous place.

The Lord gives us all gifts large and small. Only He can give even small gifts that He knows we will like. The Lord has this whole universe to run and billions that have many needs. But He is so patient and kind to watch over us in small ways like this.

Think of it, knowing how people are, I could have been laughed off of the range. But instead The Lord caused these men to first, NOTICE, and then take the time and effort to complement me, an old man that was a total stranger.

WHAT A GOD WE SERVE !

The whole drive home I was thinking about how gracious and kind He is. NOTHING is too small and unimportant for Him to not notice and help us with.

Jude 24 To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy--
25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

The Lord also helps us with important things.

Some times I wonder if I am somehow deceived and may be doing terrible. I become concerned that my whole life may have been a waste.

But after I left the gun club today I was feeling like The Lord loved me even if I have been a failure at so many things. I may have not done anything of importance, but I felt The Lord loved me anyway.

On the way home I decided to go to my son's ( Brant ) restaurant. He is selling it so I can not eat there many more times. I walked in and sat at the bar. I ordered, and one of his managers came over and said, Hi Mr Newton. I said Hi.

He then started to tell me they had a meeting this morning to meet the new owners. He started telling me how hard this was for him. He has been working for Brant for 4 years. He told me how much he respected Brant and how much he cared for him. He kept telling me thing after thing about how Brant had helped him and was so sad to see him go.

I looked up from eating and tears were flowing down his cheeks. This man is a very reserved and humble man. It choked me up. He then started telling me how good of a job he thought I had done raising my children. I shook his hand and told him he had made my day, no my week, no my month.

I then thought how blessed I was by The Lord to have the three children He gave me. I have some really good friends that have children that have crushed their hopes and dreams.

How could I be so blessed to have the Lord give me the three He gave me.

I am now aware that it was The Lord that inspired me to go to the gun club and cause those men to show favor upon me.

I am also aware that it was the Lord that inspired me to go to my son's restaurant. He caused that nice young man to say such kind and gracious things to me.

It says in the Psalms that NOTHING happens because of coincidence.

    Proverbs 21
1The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.

There is nothing in this world that can compare to being touched by The Lord Jesus.

Some men seek fame and riches of gold and silver. Other seek the attention of beautiful women.

But The Lord Jesus created all of these things and only He can give us eternal life. All of these things that most men seek will pass away.

Think about it ! Who can get in to speak with our president, who is only a mere man and can not keep the hair of his head from getting gray. We can not even speak to the governor of our state, and maybe not even the mayor of our city. People who are here today and gone tomorrow ignore us because they think we are not important enough. These people will soon be gone and in a number of years no one will even remember their names. Someone might thing I am wrong about people remembering the Potus. But in 1000 years, which is like a day to The Lord, very few will remember him on this earth.

These are mere men and they can not stop a tornado or cause a river to change course. They can not say to the sun, let there be light, and the sun makes light.

Yet the CREATOR of everything that exists walks with us and talks with us and tells us that we are His own.

Yes we are only sinful mere men and we can not stop sinning. BUT The Creator of everything that exists loves us and wants to spend time with us.

Now tell me, what else can possibly even matter.

Why not think about it, and tell us how The Lord touched you.

This is a very cool testimony, Lou. I read "pray without ceasing" and thought could God the Creator of all there is really be so interested in my micro affairs? Nobody else is. Very few are even interested in the highlights. It is amazing to ponder that He wasn't kidding with that verse: pray without ceasing. How astonishingly patient. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the reply Barry. The Lord Jesus is that close friend that always wants to be with us and wants to share in everything we do and think. He is that close friend that we all have wanted.

Knowing how the world treats us, how else could anyone explain the way these people treated me that day. I felt His peace upon me the whole day.

I encourage everyone to look for His presence, acknowledge His presence, and talk to Him as He walks with you.

Here is how David acknowledged His presence:
          A psalm of David.

1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Thanks for the very kind reply Blane.

Satan tries to deceive us into thinking that God is through with us, or that He is very angry with us. He never speaks this way to the goats. Satan tells the goats that they are the elite servants of God.

The goats do not have self doubts. It is the sheep that have self doubts.

Jesus has written a parable for both groups so they can tell which group they are in. This is so the goats can truly repent and sorrow over their sin, and so the sheep can have courage to go on knowing that Jesus does love them.

              Mathew 25
              The Sheep and the Goats

31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.
32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
37 "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
40 "The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fireprepared for the devil and his angels.
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'
44 "They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'
45 "He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'
46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

The sheep think they don't do anything righteous.

The goats think they are righteous.

Many misunderstand when Jesus calls the sheep righteous. They think some are righteous by their own actions. BUT no one is righteous except The Lord Jesus. The sheep are righteous because they are covered with his blood. They are covered with the blood of Jesus because they confess that
everything they do and think is sinful. So they are forgiven of ALL of their sin.

The goats have confessed that they have sinned. But after they are accepted as "Christians" they think they only have little sin. So they confess little sin and are forgiven of little sin.

Many do not recognize The Lord Jesus even when He is pointed out in the scriptures to them. It may be because Jesus is not their Savior. After all, even if my earthly father returned to speak to me, wouldn't I recognize him. We recognize friends it is strangers that we do not recognize.

              Grace to you
