I was driving down the road today listening to a Christian group on CD. The singer sang these words, " do not take advantage of His love". Of course they were singing that we should not take advantage of the forgiveness of Jesus and decide to sin, counting of Jesus forgiving us for that sin. I immediately cried out to Jesus and asked Him to forgive me for all the times that I had taken advantage of His love. I feel sure that I have done that countless times.
When I was young I was determined to serve The Lord Jesus with all my heart. But I soon learned that I could not serve Him or do anything of myself that would count. Unless The Lord builds the house it is built in vain.
Psalm 127
A song of ascents. Of Solomon.
1Unless the Lord builds the house,
the builders labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the guards stand watch in vain.
2 In vain you rise early
and stay up late,
toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves.
Anything we do or say on our own is vanity and will not last. Unless The Lord Jesus speaks through us or acts through us, it is nothing.
We can not keep from sinning, or do anything for The Lord of ourselves. We can only give ourselves to Jesus by the day, by the hour, and by the second and allow Him to act through us.
Solomon knew of this when he wrote:
Ecclesiastes 1 New International Version (NIV)
Everything Is Meaningless
1 The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem:
2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.”
3What do people gain from all their labors
at which they toil under the sun?
He had seen that men gain nothing from their labor when it is not from God. In the end of their life it will mean nothing.
Some say the only thing that counts is what we do for Jesus. That is NOT correct. The only thing that counts is what Jesus does through us. We can do nothing for Him of ourselves.
I have seen men study the Bible all of their lives and not even know how to be saved. No man can see anything in The Holy Scriptures unless The Holy Spirit reveals it to him.
We have absolutely no hope outside of The Lord Jesus. Without Him we are lost forever and their is no hope for us.
But the man that possesses Christ possesses everything there is to possess and lacks not one thing.
Seek Jesus and Him alone, nothing else is worth seeking.
