Genesis 3 NIV
“17 To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’
“Cursed is the ground because of you;

Adam used to live in a paradise garden planted by God. It produced delicious fruit that only had to be picked and eaten. After his sin Adam had to produce his food by painful toil and it often produced thorns and thistles instead of food. Adam would sorrow the rest of his life for eating of the tree that God told him not to eat.
