What does 2 Peter 3:14 mean?

    Lou Newton

    2 Peter 3 NIV

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.

11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15 Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. ……………..

No man will enter heaven unless they are spotless and blameless and at peace with God. There is one and only one way to be spotless and blameless and at peace with God.

Jesus revealed how a man can do these things:

    John 6 AMP

28 Then they asked Him, “What are we to do, so that we may habitually be doing the works of God?”

29 Jesus answered, “This is the work of God: that you believe [adhere to, trust in, rely on, and have faith] in the One whom He has sent.”

    1 John 1

5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

God tells us that all men are lairs. How can a liar walk in the light as Jesus ( who is The Truth) walks in the Light. He is Light.

There is only one way that I can see. That is for me to confess that I am a total liar. I have just walked into the Light as Jesus is in the Light. When I confess that my every action has been sinful, my every word has been sinful and my every thought has been sinful I then have confessed ALL of my sin and I am forgiven of all. Sin is falling short of the glory of God. I have never done one thing that does not fall short of His glory.

A sine saved by grace alone
