Is Mark chapter 8:38 considered an unpardonable sin, or can it be forgiven?

    Mark 8 NIV

38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

There is no sin that God will not forgive IF we confess that sin to Him, as sin, and ask Him to forgive us.

When we consider the words of God, we have to consider all of His words:

    ! John 1 NIV

5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

In Mark, Jesus is speaking of those who are ashamed of Him. Those who are ashamed of Him will not even be aware of their sin, yet alone confess it as sin to Him.

The only sin that can not be forgiven is the sin that someone will NOT confess as sin.

The Holy Spirit defines sin in Romans:

    Romans 3 NIV

21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in[h] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

No mere man has ever done, said ,or thought anything that did not fall short of the glory of God. Everything we do, say, and think, is sin.

God tells all men that we are all liars. We can not tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, because we do not know the whole truth. Part of the truth is NOT the whole truth. Part of the truth would not even stand up in a court of law by men.

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Jesus is LIGHT and there is no darkness in Him at all. Jesus is the TRUTH. Jesus can not lie. But we are all liars. Our flesh is darkness and we all have darkness in us. We do not know the truth. So how can we mere men walk in the light as Jesus is in the light ?

There is ONE and ONLY ONE way a liar can tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. That is when, by His grace, we fall on our knees and confess to Jesus that we are total and complete liars. We then have just walked into the light as Jesus is in the light. We then can confess that everything we ever said , ever done, and ever thought, is sin and He will forgive us. We are then totally forgiven for every sin we have ever committed.

His servant forgiven by grace and grace alone
