  • More great quotes

Please read these with prayer and thought:

"Many people in the world have not rejected Christ. They have

rejected the Christ they´ve seen, projected by Christendom."

    - Zac Poonen

"If you will here stop and ask yourself why you are not as pious

as the primitive Christians were, your own heart will tell you that it

is neither through ignorance nor inability, but because you never

    thoroughly intended it."
    - William Law.

"A lot of things that are being spoken of today as the ministry of

the Holy Spirit, it´s just emotional exuberance. Because people

don´t know what is soul and what is spirit....Young people are so

often taken up with that exuberance and say, `Oh, this is Holy

Spirit.´ It´s not, if it were Holy Spirit it would bring holiness."

    - Zac Poonen

"It was a choice saying of Augustine, 'Every saint is God's temple,

and he who carries his temple about him, may go to prayer when

    he pleaseth'."
    - Thomas Brooks.

"Prayer is nothing but the breathing that out before the Lord, that

was first breathed into us by the Spirit of the Lord."
    - Thomas Brooks.

I so often hear someone say they do not want to be a Christian because of, then they will state something the Pope did, or some other TV preacher.

But worse, sometimes it is because of something I did. Much of the world rejects Christ because of things we do or say.

    Romans 2

17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God; 18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; 19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— 21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? 24 As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”

Here we can replace the word "Jew" with "Christian". After all a true Jew was one who trusted God to save them, and that is a Christian.

But we sometimes do not follow the laws we preach to others, and Jesus may be rejected by some, because of our disobedience.

Of course this is also true:

Some may hate us, because they hate Christ. In that case we are being persecuted for a good reason.

Faith Does Not Induce God to Love or Pardon Bonar

Faith is rest, not toil. It is the giving up all the former weary efforts to do or feel something good, in order to induce God to love and pardon; and the calm reception of the truth so long rejected, that God is not waiting for any such inducements, but loves and pardons of His own goodwill, and is showing that goodwill to any sinner who will come to Him on such a footing, casting away his own poor performances or goodness-es, and relying implicitly upon the free love of Him who so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son.
... Horatius Bonar (1808-1889), "The Everlasting Righteousness"

Just 175 years after Serventus was burned in Geneva by "Christians" there came this quote from William Law. Read a biography about him to see what it means to be Christian standing against earthly powers. His writings influenced many other devout people. His writings remain it print.

Our Blessed Lord hath recommended His love to us as the pattern and the example of our love to one another. As, therefore, He is continually making intercession for us all, so ought we to intercede and pray for one another.
“A new commandment,” saith He, “I give unto you, that ye love one another, as I have loved you. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye love one another.”
The newness of this precept did not consist in this, that men were commanded to love one another for this was an old precept, both of the Law of Moses and of nature. But it was new in this respect, that it was to initiate a new and, till then, unheard-of example of love; it was to love one another as Christ had loved us. And if men are to know that we are disciples of Christ, by thus loving one another according to His new example of love, then it is certain that if we are void of this love we make it as plainly known unto men that we are none of His disciples.
... William Law (1686-1761), A Serious Call to a Devout and
        Holy Life [1728]

          Thanks Glen.

When others get angry at me because of my beliefs, I have come to see that they do not have the love of Christ. For while I was still His enemy He shed His blood for me on the cross. Obviously my beliefs were not correct when I was still the enemy of Christ. But instead of showing me hate and treating me like His enemy, He shed His blood for me.

I ask The Lord for grace and please help me to love others as He loves them.
