1Corinthians 2:1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

Jesus Christ; Crucified - Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones is well known for his 14 volume commentary on the Letter to the Romans. His preaching was strictly expository straight from the Bible . . . word by word and verse by verse.
He and John Stott were the elder leaders of the evangelical movement in England. Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones advocated that evangelicals leave the “liberal” Anglican Church to join evangelical churches. John Stott, an Anglican, opposed the schism of the body of Christ.
While Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones was an excellent Bible expositor, he retired from his ministry at Westminster Chapel in 1968 following a major operation because he believed that YHWH had stopped him from continuing to preach through the Letter to the Romans. He believed YHWH prevented him from continuing because he did not personally know enough about "joy in the Holy Spirit", which was to be his next sermon (based on Romans 14:17).
The true men of YHWH allow the Holy Ghost to check their own understanding even if it comes only after tribulation or surgery.

While the cross of Christ is the most important event to ever take place in this universe, the resurrection also had to take place to reveal evidence that it was God Almighty who died on that cross and prove that He had the ability to pay for sin and forgive sin. The resurrection is not to be our focus, but it is still to be part of our teachings. Jesus and Paul both taught many things in the Holy Scriptures, but they all point to the cross of Jesus.
There are many other things that we are still to do. While we are to focus on Jesus Christ crucified, we still have to work to provide for our families and protect them. The cross of Jesus should be always in our heart and minds as we do these things.
Anyone who has a dog can relate to this example: I asked man who had one if he loved his dog and he replied, yes. I asked, why? He could not give a reason, he said he just loved the dog for no reason. I asked if the dog had a job ? He said it was watchdog. I asked if the dog was sleeping, or eating did he yell at it and tell it to stop and do his job instead. He seen my point right away and said, No, of course not. The dog often slept and ate, but if it heard a strange noise it would wake up and investigate. The dog often did other things than actively watching for intruders, but it always was on the lookout even when it was sleeping.
We have to do many things during our lives, but the cross of Jesus should always be close in our hearts and minds.
