I could not sleep tonight. I kept remembering one mistake after another that I made many years ago. The time that I was selfish, unjust, or unkind toward someone just kept popping into my mind.
Over the years I do not understand how many that I have talked with can think they no longer have to sin. They speak of not sinning much anymore.
I am well aware that I am not like The Lord Jesus in any way. I have never once achieved the love and truth that He walked in continually.
I am also reminded of one that thought he was like The Lord Jesus Himself.
Isaiah 14
12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!
13 You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.
14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."
I am thankful that the Lord has shinned His grace upon me and I am certainly very aware that I am not like the Most High and I never will be.
Romans 2
1 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.
2 Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth.
3 So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment?
4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?
How does The Holy Spirit know that the one who passes judgement on another does the same things ?
Because he knows all men do these things.
Who passes this judgement on others instead of having mercy for them? Those who are not aware that everything they do is sin. Those that are aware that everything they think, and everything they do is sin, have mercy on others who sin.
Romans 2
5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed.
God is speaking here of the person who has not repented fully for their sin. They have confessed some sin, but not all sin. Therefore they are forgiven of the little sin they have confessed; instead of being forgiven of all the sin they have done. There is only one way to confess all of our sin. That is to confess that everything we do and think is sin.
The Holy Spirit kept reasoning with those who were not aware of this in Romans:
Romans 2 17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew( Note from Lou - or today a Christian) ; if you rely on the law and brag about your relationship to God;
18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law;
19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark,
20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth--
21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself ? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?
22You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?
23 You who brag about the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law?
Romans 3
No One Is Righteous
9 What shall we conclude then? Are we any better ? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin.
10As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;
11 there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.
12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."
13 "Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit." "The poison of vipers is on their lips."
14 "Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."
15 "Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 ruin and misery mark their ways,
17 and the way of peace they do not know."
18 "There is no fear of God before their eyes."
19 Now we know that whatever the law says,it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silencedand the whole world held accountable to God.
20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
Romans 3 21 But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,
23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
We see here God's definition of sin:
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
There is one who claims not to fall short of the glory of God. Satan claims to be like the most high. All those who think like him are doomed to join him forever unless they repent and confess their sin.
If anyone thinks that they do not sin in everything they do and think; I would ask what do they do that is on par with the glory of God.
If it falls short of His glory, then it is sin.
John understood this when he wrote this:
1 John 1
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.
6 If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
If we claim to be without sin - This is not pass tense - it is written in present tense.
Anytime we claim that we have not sinned, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
