    Is the Earth older than the Sun? Scientists say the Sun is older, but in the Holy scriptures, the Earth is older.

    The Bible does NOT say that the earth is older than the sun:

    Genesis 1 New International Version (NIV)

    The Beginning

    “1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

    3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.”

    The earth here is NOT formed yet. Formless means exactly what is says, not yet formed. But then:

    Genesis 1: 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.”

    Where do you think this light came from ? Where does our light come from yet today ? The Sun is the source of our light on the earth. The Sun was formed and started to produce light before the earth was formed.

    Genesis 1: CEV

    “God said, “I command lights to appear in the sky and to separate day from night and to show the time for seasons, special days, and years.”

    GNT

    “Then God commanded, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate day from night and to show the time when days, years, and religious festivals begin;”

    TLB

    “Then God said, “Let bright lights appear in the sky to give light to the earth and to identify the day and the night; they shall bring about the seasons on the earth, and mark the days and years.” And so it was.”

    NLT

    “Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years.”

    God does not say He created lights on that day. BUT God does say this in verse 1:

    ““1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

    Is not the heavens and the earth everything that exists in this material world ?

    So what does this all mean. In the first instance of time ( the beginning) God created all matter and energy that makes up this universe. BUT it was not formed into stars and planets yet. It clearly states the earth was not formed.

    So when God said let there be light, the sun that had been forming started nuclear fusion and started producing light. You can not have plants without sun light and the earths started producing plants soon after the sun started producing light.

    The earth formed soon after the sun started producing light. BUT you could not see the sun from the earth because of all the dust in the solar system. But you could see the light of the sun as on a cloudy day. When the sun came on the solar wind blew away the dust and the sun appeared in the sky.

    The sun was formed first and then the earth formed.

    The Bible is not the only revelation from God to man. We also have the heavens:

    Psalm 19 New International Version (NIV)

    Psalm 19

    “For the director of music. A psalm of David.

    1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
    2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge
    .”

    We can see other star systems forming as we look. We can see them in all stages of formation. We see that the star forms first, then it produces light, then is blows the dust away.

    The account that God left us in Genesis 1 does not disagree with the account God left in the heavens. It does disagree with the popular tradition of men.

    Colossians 2:8
    “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”

    Mark 7:11-13
    “But you say, 'If a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever profit you might have received from me is Corban"' (that is, a gift to God), then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother, making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.' “
