Who were the priests of the order of Melchizedek?

Lou Newton, former Steel Mill Crane Designer and Physics Teacher

There is One and Only One Priest of the order of Melchizedek. That is The Lord Jesus.

Lets look at the passages about Melchizedek:

    Genesis 14 NIV

“ 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying,

“Blessed be Abram by God Most High,
    Creator of heaven and earth.
20 And praise be to God Most High,
who delivered your enemies into your hand.”

Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. “

Melchizedek is Hebrew for King of Righteousness and He was also King of Salem or King of Peace. There is but one King of Righteousness and that is God. No one else is righteous let alone King of Righteousness.

Notice that the Holy Scriptures do not say He called Himself Melchizedek, but then Melchizedek of Salem brought out bread and wine. Notice that He served Abraham communion.

Abraham tithed to God, but he gave Melchizedek the tithe. So that is also evidence that Melchizedek is God.

    Joshua 10

    New International Version

    The Sun Stands Still

“10 Now Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken Ai and totally destroyed it, doing to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king, and that the people of Gibeon had made a treaty of peace with Israel and had become their allies. 2 He and his people were very much alarmed at this, because Gibeon was an important city, like one of the royal cities; it was larger than Ai, and all its men were good fighters. 3 So Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem appealed to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish and Debir king of Eglon. 4 “Come up and help me attack Gibeon,” he said, “because it has made peace with Joshua and the Israelites.”

    ………………………..

12 On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:

    “Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
    and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on[b] its enemies,

as it is written in the Book of Jashar.

The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel!

15 Then Joshua returned with all Israel to the camp at Gilgal.

    Five Amorite Kings Killed

    …………….

22 Joshua said, “Open the mouth of the cave and bring those five kings out to me.” 23 So they brought the five kings out of the cave—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon. 24 When they had brought these kings to Joshua, he summoned all the men of Israel and said to the army commanders who had come with him, “Come here and put your feet on the necks of these kings.” So they came forward and placed their feet on their necks.

25 Joshua said to them, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous. This is what the Lord will do to all the enemies you are going to fight.” 26 Then Joshua put the kings to death and exposed their bodies on five poles, and they were left hanging on the poles until evening. “

This man called himself Adoni-Zedek and was king of Jerusalem. Adoni-Zedek means Lord of Righteousness. But this man was NOT The Lord of Righteousness and God made sure everyone knew this by stopping the sun in the sky so Joshua could find and kill him.

    Psalm 110

    Of David. A psalm.

1 The Lord says to my lord:

    “Sit at my right hand
    until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”

2 The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying,
“Rule in the midst of your enemies!”
3 Your troops will be willing
    on your day of battle.
    Arrayed in holy splendor,
your young men will come to you
like dew from the morning’s womb.

    4 The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
    “You are a priest forever,
    in the order of Melchizedek.”

This Psalm is about the Messiah, Jesus, and notice it says that Jesus is a Priest forever in the order of Melchizedek. So Melchizedek is a Priest forever and He is of the same order as Jesus. Jesus is God Almighty and so is Melchizedek. Melchizedek is just another Name for Jesus. He is The One and Only King of Righteousness.

    Hebrews 7

    Melchizedek the Priest

7 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, 2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” 3 Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.

4 Just think how great he was: Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the plunder! 5 Now the law requires the descendants of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people—that is, from their fellow Israelites—even though they also are descended from Abraham. 6 This man, however, did not trace his descent from Levi, yet he collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. 7 And without doubt the lesser is blessed by the greater. 8 In the one case, the tenth is collected by people who die; but in the other case, by him who is declared to be living. 9 One might even say that Levi, who collects the tenth, paid the tenth through Abraham, 10 because when Melchizedek met Abraham, Levi was still in the body of his ancestor.

    Jesus Like Melchizedek

11 If perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood—and indeed the law given to the people established that priesthood—why was there still need for another priest to come, one in the order of Melchizedek, not in the order of Aaron? 12 For when the priesthood is changed, the law must be changed also. 13 He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, and no one from that tribe has ever served at the altar. 14 For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. 15 And what we have said is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears, 16 one who has become a priest not on the basis of a regulation as to his ancestry but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is declared:

    “You are a priest forever,
    in the order of Melchizedek.”

18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

20 And it was not without an oath! Others became priests without any oath, 21 but he became a priest with an oath when God said to him:

    “The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
    ‘You are a priest forever.’”

Only God has no father or mother. Only God has no beginning and no end. Only God has the power of an indestructible life.

No mere man was allowed to be BOTH King and Priest. Jesus is our Priest and our King which proves He is more than a Man. He was born of a woman to become the Only Begotten Son of God and a Man, but He was also God Almighty. Melchizedek was both King and Priest. This proves He is God Almighty for no One but God can be both King and Priest.

Jerusalem is called the city of The Great King. WHY ? Because God Almighty ruled there from the time of Adam until the time of Abraham.
