  • The term "Lord" is pagan?

    Just read a post somewhere...

    (Yirmeyahu) Jeremiah 23:26-27
Till when shall it be in the hearts of the nebi'im (Prophets)-- the nebi'im of falsehood and the nebi'im of deceit of their own heart, Who tried to make My people forget My Name by their dreams which everyone relates to his neighbor, as their fathers forgot My Name for Ba'al.

The post goes on to state that according to the Strong's Concordance, Baal means owner and lord.

Another video I watched said that if we loved God we will give up our idol celebrations like Christmas and Easter.

Okay, I just don't get any of this. What are these people saying? If you don't call God and the people in the Bible by their Hebrew names and/or if you celebrate Christmas, you aren't a Christian? Do I need to repent? What's the deal?

Do you have a link for this? I'd like to see the context for it. It's reminding me of a Jewish Roots Movement theme I studied some time ago. Or possibly a "sacred name" sect...?
You know not what you do because you know not who He is.

Satan is the angel of knowledge and he does not waste his time on anything for no reason.

I know you know we have freedom in Jesus, Karl. Do you discern that these things are profitable, or will they bring you under bondage?

Well said Barry. Karl you already know that this is false or counterfeit preaching.
JESUS came to free us not put a heavy burden on us that we are incapable of handling.
And to top it off He even helps with the load and when the load becomes unbearable, He bears the full extent of the burden.
Don't forget that Karl. Don't let the enemy steal your peace.
Proverbs says to cease to hear the instructions that causes us to err from the truth.
Blessings on you and your family brother. ..... Steve

            Hi Karl,

The JW insist that God has to be addressed by the name Jehovah or he will not answer your prayers.

The problem with this is that there is not one scripture that tells us of this seemingly very important command.

Also those that make this claim do not know Him at all, for they claim that Jesus is not God. Or that God did not become flesh.

            1 John 4

            Test the Spirits
1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
The JW do NOT acknowledge that God came in the flesh, so they are antichrist by what John says here.

You know that God called Himself Melchizedek to Abraham and everyone around Jerusalem in that day.

When Moses asked God His Name, God answered it was "I AM".

11 The angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. 12 When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, "The LORD is with you, mighty warrior." 13 "But sir," Gideon replied, "if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us about when they said, 'Did not the LORD bring us up out of Egypt?' But now the LORD has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian." 14 The LORD turned to him and said, "Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand. Am I not sending you?" 15 "But Lord, " Gideon asked, "how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family." 16 The LORD answered, "I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites together." 17 Gideon replied, "If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign that it is really you talking to me. 18 Please do not go away until I come back and bring my offering and set it before you." And the LORD said, "I will wait until you return." 19 Gideon went in, prepared a young goat, and from an ephah of flour he made bread without yeast. Putting the meat in a basket and its broth in a pot, he brought them out and offered them to him under the oak. 20 The angel of God said to him, "Take the meat and the unleavened bread, place them on this rock, and pour out the broth." And Gideon did so. 21 With the tip of the staff that was in his hand, the angel of the LORD touched the meat and the unleavened bread. Fire flared from the rock, consuming the meat and the bread. And the angel of the LORD disappeared. 22 When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the LORD, he exclaimed, "Ah, Sovereign LORD! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!" 23 But the LORD said to him, "Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die." 24 So Gideon built an altar to the LORD there and called it The LORD is Peace.
God certainly had the opportunity to tell Gideon to call Him by a certain name here, but he did not.

9 God heard Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman while she was out in the field; but her husband Manoah was not with her. 10 The woman hurried to tell her husband, "He's here! The man who appeared to me the other day!" 11 Manoah got up and followed his wife. When he came to the man, he said, "Are you the one who talked to my wife?" "I am," he said. 12 So Manoah asked him, "When your words are fulfilled, what is to be the rule for the boy's life and work?" 13 The angel of the LORD answered, "Your wife must do all that I have told her. 14 She must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, nor drink any wine or other fermented drink nor eat anything unclean. She must do everything I have commanded her." 15 Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "We would like you to stay until we prepare a young goat for you." 16 The angel of the LORD replied, "Even though you detain me, I will not eat any of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the LORD." (Manoah did not realize that it was the angel of the LORD.) 17 Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the LORD, "What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes true?" 18 He replied, "Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding. " 19 Then Manoah took a young goat, together with the grain offering, and sacrificed it on a rock to the LORD. And the LORD did an amazing thing while Manoah and his wife watched: 20 As the flame blazed up from the altar toward heaven, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame. Seeing this, Manoah and his wife fell with their faces to the ground. 21 When the angel of the LORD did not show himself again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized that it was the angel of the LORD. 22 "We are doomed to die!" he said to his wife. "We have seen God!" 23 But his wife answered, "If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and grain offering from our hands, nor shown us all these things or now told us this." 24 The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the LORD blessed him, 25 and the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him while he was in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
We see here that Manoah asked God His Name and he answered, why do you ask, it is beyond understanding.

If God was concerned that we address Him with the correct sounds from our lips, he would have told Manoah what those were.

The JW insist that His only name is Jehovah. But they have absolutely no way of knowing that God ever used that name.

For the Holy Scriptures do not record the vowels but only the consonants.

So what is written is JHVH in English.

So that could be JAHAVAH or JOHOVOH or JEHEVEH or JUHUVUH or JIHIVIH or many other combinations like JOHUVAH.

God tells us on almost every page of scripture that we are to humble ourselves before Him and confess our sins to Him. He also tells us on almost every page to treat others with mercy and justice.

But these people do not want to do that, so they focus on using a certain name for God.

When God appeared to Joshua he called Himself the Commander of the Lords Army.

Certainly I have called upon the name of the Lord as My Creator, Father, Jesus, Lord Jesus, Daddy, and many others. He has answered my prayers by raising the dead and healing those that were told they would die that very hour.

Those that addressed Baal were not addressing God because the attributes they attributed to Baal was not those of God. BAAL asked them to sacrifice their children to him.

BAAL also means master. We know that Mary called Jesus, Master, and he was not offended by this.

IT IS NOT WHAT NAME USE FOR GOD, IT IS WHO WE ADDRESS WITH THAT NAME THAT MATTERS

My name is Lou. But some call me Louis, and one person Louie. Some buddies still call me Big Lou. I am not offended by what they call me, but how they respect me or disrespect me.

If you call the wrong phone number and say Hi Lou, I will not answer. You have to call me at my phone.

The same is true of The Lord Jesus. He is a person and you have to address Him not someone else. If you call a demon by the name Jesus, God will not answer you, but the demon certainly will.

            Lou
