  • Someone charged thousands to my bank account

    Please pray for me.

I use my checking account to pay my rent and utilities. I have been so careful for many months and even added some extra money to my account to build up to have a balance of over $200 after I paid my monthly bills.

This morning a received an email from my bank telling me my account was overdrawn. Someone charged many fraudulent charges to my account. One charge alone was over $600. They made over 20 charges.

I have talked to my bank over the phone and disputed the charges. But that may take quite few days to find out what they will do. They canceled my card and will send me a new one. I do not know if I want a new card. But it comes with the checking account. I do need the checking account.

Please pray that these fraudulent charges get straightened out fast and correct.

The bank has said it will take all those charges off of my account. Some have been taken off already, but four of them still remain.

    Thank you for your prayers.

These four charges are still charged against my account. Please pray that the bank removes them and credits my account for them.

      Thank you.

They still have three charges on my account that I did not make. Please pray that they remove them soon.

The bank finally removed all the false charges on my account this morning.

Thank you Lord Jesus and thank you all who prayed for this.

Lou, I missed the boat on this request. But I am so glad the Lord Jesus looked after you, and I'm glad to join in giving thanks to Him.

It sounds like maybe you got bit by a skimmer, or a business where you shopped got hacked. We can rejoice, though, that even the craftiest crooks, though they go arm in arm, are no match for our Lord.

Hi Barry, it is so good to hear from you brother. What a wonderful comment.

Could you explain what a skimmer is. I sure don't want this to happen again.

Is a skimmer the same as a swisher. I do not know what either is. I did get a warning from Norton when I tried to go to a site that sold books, it said this was a dangerous site and it might be a swisher. I did not click on it and closed that window right away. I even ran a scan right after I closed that window, nothing was found by the scan.

I haven't heard of swisher. It sounds like a web site scripting attack.

A skimmer is a device that fits over a legitimate card scanner, like a face plate. It has its own reader, and a storage device. Crooks attach the skimmer to a reader in various ways. Sometimes they are detectable, sometimes not. Later they come back and pick up the device and harvest their loot.

Here are some short videos about skimmers.

And yes, it could have been a web site or any business that stores credit card into on a computer. Pretty much all stores do this nowadays.

The newest cards have chips, which are also hackable. About all we can do is avoid disreputable places we learn of, remain vigilant over our statements and report suspicious charges quickly.

Thanks, it was not a skimmer then. I never have used my card except at the bank on the inside.
