What was in existence before the Big Bang? Was there just an infinite empty space devoid of light, energy, and matter?

Before the Big Bang there was no material universe. There was no space , time, energy, light or matter. God existed in His heaven as He has always existed and He has no beginning and no end. God is spirit and not part of this material universe. Although He is the force that holds this universe together.
