    Genesis 1New International Version (NIV)

    The Beginning

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

    1 John 1

5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

God is spiritual light. The natural is a sign of the spiritual. So learning about natural light will teach us about God Himself.

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

For men to think the universe had no beginning, reveals they did not believe the Bible they claimed to believe.

For God clearly tells us that the universe had a beginning. God created the universe in the beginning of time, or the very first instance of time. What did God create in that first instant of time ? The heavens and the earth. The heavens includes everything when we look up and the earth includes everything when we look down.

Together they include all matter and energy, or all of the material universe.
