I was told by Dr. David Fletcher, an Old Testament professor that the Bible records exactly twice the number of miracles under Elisha as occurred under Elijah.

Interesting, I was thinking about this very thing yesterday. I was wondering if Elisha had twice the miracles of Elijah. Elijah's were bigger in my opinion.

Dr. David Fletcher was not just my professor, but my tutor for two years and a friend until he died. He read over a 1000 pages every day with complete recall. He always lectured with information from his reading from the night before quoting passages and page numbers. Another professor said of David, "He has read everything concerning Christianity and philosophy." I don't think that was an exaggeration. Ministers and professors who attend seminary with David told amazing stories about his photographic memory. I not only had him for courses in Old Testament studies but for courses in the Christian life and the Devotional Life.

No matter what we discussed he would suggest readings for better understanding. If I could not understand my error or his information, which was daily, he offered additional things to read, often labeling me with the name of a disrespected scholar so I could identify what I said with a known perspective. On the other hand, he was gentle and humble. He was the first person I ever heard say we ought to fear God, but he always reminded us that divine grace was effective and sufficient. His wife Helen, made the best apple pie.
David was the stereotypical absent minded professor in appearance, and he laughed when we mimicked his appearance. David and Helen were regular attendees among the professors and college friends in my home. Oh, how I miss them - all those professors have gone to be with the LORD.

Let it be known, I am the dumbest and least able of the bunch - in fact, I never belonged to that bunch from high on the vine. I am the fruit aborted and left on the ground looking up admiringly at the better harvest.
